SHAMELESS STARS FIND REAL LOVE - Sunday Mail - February 18, 2004(292 total words in this text) (12673 Reads) SHAMELESS star James McAvoy is dating on-screen girlfriend Anne-Marie Duff. James,
24, of Drumchapel, Glasgow, fell for 33-year-old Anne-Marie while filming the
Channel 4 hit.
In the series, James plays Steve, a car thief who falls in love with Anne-Marie's
character Fiona, head of the dysfunctional Gallagher family. Although the couple
made a pact not to discuss their friendship, Anne-Marie confirmed their on-screen
chemistry had carried over into real life, saying : Yes, it's true. Can you
see how much I'm blushing?
James would say nothing about the couple's private life but heaped professional
praise on his co-star. He said: That's probably the best on-screen relationship
I have ever had with someone. Nudity isn't a problem for me. And I'd love to
work with Anne-Marie again. She is just unbelievable.
The young actor recently split from his girlfriend of nine years, drama student
Emma Neilson, 22, of Edinburgh. After charming audiences as slick young hack
Dan in Paul Abbot's State Of Play, James has been making waves in Hollywood.
He played a toff in Bright Young Things, Stephen Fry's directorial debut, and
stars with Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany in tennis film Wimbledon, out this
summer.
However, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama graduate is keen to
get more Scottish roles and has knocked back a couple of US films in favour
of local projects. Anne-Marie began her career in theatre but is best known
for her moving performance in The Magdalene Sisters, which won Best Picture
at the Venice Film Festival. Shameless has been commissioned for a second series.
